Sewage Treatment Works SCADA upgrade (Shek Wu Hui)
Updated: Jul 13
Location: Shek Wu Hui STW
Introduction: WYE was responsible for executing a high-availability architectural lifecycle upgrade of the core SCADA, database, and PLC network for Bioreactors 3 & 4 (BR3 & BR4). The project established a synchronized redundant server cluster and a unified data highway, providing real-time telemetry and advanced historical process analytics under a continuous-operation environment.
The Work
System Upgrades & Live Migration: Executed a "live" hot-swap upgrade of the plant's core Siemens Simatic WinCC SCADA system from V7.0 to V8.1. Performed comprehensive pre-cutover database backups to eliminate process monitoring downtime.
Redundant Infrastructure Deployment: Provisioned and configured six sets of enterprise-grade HPE ProLiant server clusters (OPC, Application, and AVEVA Historian systems) with hardware RAID arrays and automatic failover topologies.
Telemetry Integration & Programming: Expanded PLC hardware by installing Analog Input (AI) modules. Rewrote control logic blocks to scale and linearize raw analog inputs from field temperature sensors at BR3 & BR4, and programmed critical SCADA alarm thresholds and interlocks.
Result
Secures continuous process visibility and safeguards biological treatment stages from bio-bacterial collapse. It streamlines multi-vendor network compatibility into a unified, high-availability platform with zero public utility service interruption.
