It is often said that challenges bring opportunities, and the pandemic is no exception. Graduates from the Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) have utilized their creativity and acquired skills to contribute significantly in various fields during this unprecedented health crisis, not only creating business opportunities but also helping those in need.
Creating Automated Mask Production Lines
During the pandemic, masks became essential. After experiencing a mask shortage, local mask factories flourished, providing a chance for automation technology to shine. Lai Shuen Chau, a graduate of IVE's Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, founded an automation engineering and consulting company that established automated production lines for over 30 local mask manufacturers. He noted that the inability of foreign engineers to come to Hong Kong during the pandemic created opportunities for local automation companies, helping to stabilize the supply of masks in the region. He feels fortunate to be able to apply his professional knowledge to give back to society and collaborate with Hong Kong residents in combating the pandemic.
Mr. Lai also hired several IVE graduates, including Yeung Ka Ho, a graduate of the Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, who joined Lai's company after graduation. Mr. Yeung is responsible for programming computers and configuring hardware for automation systems, including installing components and laying wiring. He stated that the skills training provided by IVE has been beneficial in designing automation systems that meet client requirements.
